Top 5 True Crime Podcasts
I first started listening to podcasts in 2012 and my first ever podcast that I listened to was Stuff You Should Know, which I still love and still listen to.
You can see here some of the other podcasts that I enjoy and have listened to in the past.
Today I want to share with you some of my all time favourite True Crime podcasts. I think the genre of True Crime has really exploded in the podcast world and I love it. Let me know what are your favourites in the comments section below!
5. Dirty John
Debra Newell is a successful interior designer. She meets John Meehan, a handsome man who seems to check all the boxes: attentive, available, just back from a year in Iraq with Doctors Without Borders. But her family doesn’t like John, and they get entangled in an increasingly complex web of love, deception, forgiveness, denial, and ultimately, survival. Reported and hosted by Christopher Goffard from the L.A. Times.
I had heard about this case from a few True Crime Youtubers and then I watched the Netflix series (Highly recommend the Netflix series btw) I then decided to listen to the podcast, it’s very well made and I really enjoyed it. If it’s your first time hearing about the case, you will be on the edge of your seat and the end of each episode!
4. Culpable
Culpable explores unsettled cases where the people who seem deserving of blame have somehow eluded justice. On February 26, 2014, Christian Andreacchio was found dead in the upstairs bathroom of his apartment from a single gunshot wound to the head. After a mere 45-minute investigation, local police ruled his death a suicide, despite substantial evidence that points to Christian’s death not only being a homicide, but premeditated murder. Host Dennis Cooper investigates and shares a compelling story about this suspicious death, the questions surrounding it, and a grieving family’s ongoing fight for justice.
A truly tragic case, you will get really invested in it. You will be shocked at how the police handled this case. Seemingly this case is still ongoing. A must listen to for sure.
3. Hell and Gone
Now in its third season, Hell And Gone is a podcast from iHeartRadio and School of Humans that follows writer and private investigator Catherine Townsend as she investigates unsolved deaths.
I have only listened to series one and two but series three on on my list. You go along with Catherine as she tries to investigate these tragic murders, it’s very addictive to listen to. P.S, I love her accent!
4. Up and Vanished
Up and Vanished is an investigative true crime podcast hosted by Atlanta filmmaker Payne Lindsey. In Season 1, Payne tackles his first cold case story, the unsolved disappearance of Georgia high school teacher and former pageant queen, Tara Grinstead. The 11-year-old case remains the largest case file in Georgia history and is still unfolding. Season 2 focuses on the disappearance of young mother Kristal Reisinger from a remote mountain town in Colorado. Up and Vanished aims to tell compelling, true stories and give these cases the exposure they deserve.
I love all of Payne Lindsey’s podcasts. Both series of Up and Vanished are very well told so you really get stuck into the cases and will find yourself flying through the episodes to try and figure out what happened.
1. Generation Why
The Generation Why Podcast released its first episode in 2012 and pioneered the true crime genre in the podcasting world. Two friends, Aaron & Justin, break down theories and give their opinions on unsolved murders, controversies, mysteries and conspiracies.
Probably my all time favourite True Crime podcast series. I usually listen to them when I’m at work. They have a massive catalogue of cases so great for anyone who goes through podcasts quickly. Each episode it focused on a specific case, I think the first case I listened to of theirs was the Lululemon murder case and I was hooked.
