MY WEDDING DRESS DISASTER | DH GATE
Once I started to plan my wedding everyone kept asking me about the dress, have I got it, where am I getting it from, when am I getting it. On and on. Booking an appointment for a bridal salon seemed a bit daunting to me and seen as my life is the internet, I decided to have a look online.
It seemed so easy, I saw a few websites. In particular DHgate and DIYdress. They seemed like magical websites with the dresses from heaven. Sewn by angels, made to order and would fit you perfectly. Not only this but it seemed so cheap! Like insanely cheap. All these replicas of beautiful dresses. It was all too good to be true.
I fell in love with the designer BERTA, those dresses though, retail for about 7,000€ which for me is out of the question to spend on a dress. I thought getting a replica of one made could work out so much cheaper and it would fit me perfectly.
After weeks of debating which one I wanted, I finally chose one. It was perfect. Everything I dreamed of. My lovely fiancé helped me measure every bit of my body at 2am when I impulse ordered. I was so excited I even paid extra to rush the order. As it turned out this website didn't really give an F about my extra payment for a sped up deadline. I received an email the next day asking for more time. I think in total they got over 2 weeks more then it was supposed to take. I wasn't told why I paid extra, and didn't get the dress sooner. They just kept telling me they needed more time. I agreed hoping for this perfect dress.
Two days ago it arrived. Even by taking the package into my arms from the delivery guy, it didn't feel right. The packaging with kinda crap. Some 'amazing' dress was just squashed into a mail bag. I ran upstairs and ripped it open to try it on. The second I felt the fabric my heart sank.
I pulled out the beaded belt that came with it and I knew then, it was going to be awful. The belt looked like something you would make in Home Ec class, crap material, crap sequins and the clasp didn't even stay closed around your waist. Not to mention this waist belt fit around my hips.
As I pulled the dress on I felt like I was putting on some cheap Halloween costume. The material was thick and cheap. Like old lace curtains. It loosely fit around my hips and then all shit went cray. As you can see from the video. I don't even have words for how awful and how badly fitted the top of the dress was. The sleeves were too short and too baggy. The clasp, just like the one on the belt, didn't stay closed. I felt like laughing and crying at the same time. For something that I spent an hour taking #perfect measurements for I was in shock how completely off everything was.
Immediately, I emailed asking to return it and get a refund. I read on their website that returns need to be sent within 7 days. The way they're replying to my emails
I feel like they're trying to get me to wait past the 7 day period so that the refund is void. Asking me for pictures of this and that, then asking me to go to a tailor and see if they can alter it. Believe me that dress is beyond anyone's help.
Please don't be like me and believe websites like these. I should have known better, they only have stock images of dresses. It just all seemed so easy! Please let me know if a site like this has worked for any of you. I'll keep you updated on the dress sitch.
