Lush Shampoo Bar | Review

The first time I tried a shampoo bar from lush was back in 2014. I had tried the “New!” bar, however I believe it had a different name back then. It is the reddish one with cloves and cinnamon. I remember that it didn’t lather very well which was disappointing, I used it up but I didn’t repurchase it.

I am one of those lucky people who suffer with psoriasis and in around mid 2015 I had a bad flare up of it on my scalp. I had used all sorts of shampoos, even that strange caffeine one that people swear by. I decided to have a look again in lush and I picked up the soak and float bar, which, back then, had a really strong “campfire” aroma lol I did notice a small difference, and I also found it didn’t irritate my scalp like some other shampoos did. After a few months that flare up of psoriasis on my scalp had gone. I don’t attribute that to the shampoo as those types of flare ups usually come and go by themselves. As my scalp was psoriasis free I decided to try the “Honey I washed my hair” shampoo bar from lush, I loved the smell of it and it worked well, but again, it didn’t lather very well at all.

After that, I used the Vosene shampoo for a long time, it worked really well for dandruff/psoriasis but unfortunately it is tested on animals and of course, it comes in a plastic bottle.

In 2018 I started to develop psoriasis on my forehead/hairline not so much on my scalp and I switched shampoos again to Childs Farm, baby shampoo. Which is not tested on animals, fragrance free and actually works very well. The downside to this shampoo is that the bottles are quite small. I would only get about 2 weeks out of the bottle. With both me and Stas using it.

Seeing all of those plastic bottles go to waste I decided to try the lush shampoo bars again and since the start of 2020 I have been using Soak and Float. It’s really gentle on my psoriasis and it lasts us for just over a month. As anyone with psoriasis knows, no shampoo will be able to completely clear your psoriasis but this one definitely helps a little bit.

Here’s a bit about the shampoo bar

Soothe an irritated scalp with this sweet and smoky scented shampoo bar. Fragrant rose oil provide balance, while marigold petals and cade oil help to calm an itchy, dry scalp. - Lush, UK

The big difference that I have noted since first using the shampoo bars back in 2014 to now is how much better they lather. Seriously, compared to what they used to be like, they lather so well. So they must have changed the formula since. I know that lathering is not super important and it doesn’t mean that your hair is getting cleaned any better but it helps to see where you have applied the shampoo and how much. I have noticed as well that the scent has changed, that “campfire” smell has gone and now it just had a nice “lush” smell, kind of sweet. There is seaweed in the shampoo bar as well which will get caught in your hair - but don’t worry, it will brush out when you’re drying it.

Recently I went into boots and picked up their shampoo bar, the lavender one. I have to say, I didn’t like it at all. It does not lather well at all and it didn’t clean as well as the lush ones do. The only reason I picked it up was because we had run out of the lush one and the lush shop near us is closed during this lockdown :(

I would definitely recommend transitioning to using a shampoo bar. They are quite affordable and way better for the planet. I would recommend checking out Lush as they have lots of different types, each for a different hair concern. They all have really nice scents and natural ingredients. They are around 10E each, which is pretty reasonable for how long you get out of it!

Have you tried any of the Lush shampoo bars? Which one was your fav?
