LETS TALK | COLLEGE EXPERIENCE | ITEC
Before I start this post I will leave the link here for a post I wrote last year, about me starting my ITEC course and to a video that I made a few weeks into the course giving my opinions. It'll give you a bit of background.
Starting off I want to tell you where I did my course. I studied in Bronwyn Conroy Beauty School which is located in Blackrock. It is such a fantastic college and I would 100% recommend it. They have full and part time specialist courses. This is the link to their website so have a look, as they have tonnes of interesting courses. Excellent learning guaranteed and good prices. I actually did my Eyelash Extension course there. If you are interested in the beauty world, you will find a course that interests you, so have a look.
Back in October when I started the course I was so happy to find that all the tutors there are so lovely, hardworking and helpful. There was such a nice sense of family in the college. As for my classmates, I was so lucky to be with such a great group of fantastic girls. We all got on great and supported each other through our studies and preparations for exams.
Going on to discuss the ITEC Beauty Specialist course I studied. It ran from October to March, over 20 weeks. During this time we had 3 classes per week. In our classes we did a mix of both theory and practical. The subjects we covered were; Skin & Eye, Manicure & Pedicure, Waxing, Makeup and Business. During the course you are required to do five case studies on each of the topics, except business. So 20 in total! For anyone planning on doing this course, a word of advice, listen to your tutors on deadlines and get them done asap so you can focus on theory and practical study! As you can imagine these case studies take quite a bit of time and effort, but they are totally doable.
For the exams, you have a practical exam (run through, covering all treatments) and a theory exam (MCQ for each of the 5 subjects) Looking back now to get a good grade in your exams you really have to knuckle down and get your study done. As it's a part time course, like me you will probably be working full time/part time, so you really have to take it seriously and dedicate your time for the course in order to get the best results you can. It takes a lot of practise to perfect your treatments too so start lining up your models to experiment on! Shoutout to Stas for letting me practise facials and massage on him!
I had always thought and had heard people saying that getting a beauty qualification was "easy" that it's not hard. Which I see now is far from the truth. It honestly takes so much time and focus. To get qualified is such a great achievement and something to so be proud of!
My favourite treatments to do were definitely facials, massage and waxing. So I will be planning on adding these to my price list. We trained with Dermalogica and I really enjoy using their products so I would plan on using them for any treatments.
Looking back on when I first started and knew hardly anything, you come out of this course so knowledgeable and really set up to step into the professional world. So if you want to get started in the beauty industry, start something new or changes your career, look into Bronwyn Conroy and the different courses they have. The Director of the school, Anna, is wonderful and will be able to guide you.
Let me know if you have any questions about the course I did in the comments below! Thanks for reading
